Thought of the day

Ever wonder how much a diaper can hold?!?

It's actually a pretty amazing and bewildering amount.

Check it out....

The diaper accidentally went through the wash and this is what is came out looking like. It was huge! The craziest part...it never leaked!

The washed diaper next to a dry diaper of its same size.
AMAZING! And way too funny!

Lesson learned.....

We now can sleep at night knowing Haiden can pee a gallon and her diaper will never leak!!

Late Winter Update

January 31, 2009

Wow....it's almost February and Haiden is officially 9 weeks old. Time is flying!
Sarah started work on Monday, Jan 26th which meant Haiden started day care at University Nursery School! It was a big day; Haiden met many new friends and had a blast.

1st day of day care...all bundled and ready to go!

She's becoming more alert and interested in her surroundings. She's loves to watch her mobile, listen to daddy read her stories, and lay stretched out on her blanket watching all the activity around her. Haiden is also starting to smile at mommy and daddy and her toys.

Playmat time = Fun time
Hello!
Haiden loves watching her mobile
Playing in the crib

Jayd and Shyla are doing really well and are always curious as to what Haiden is up to! Before we know it, Haiden will be running around with those 2!

All the Girls

On January 29th, Haiden had her 2 month well check up. As exciting as it was to find out her weight and length, the shots were NOT fun!
Haiden is growing and has practically doubled in size since the day mom and dad brought her home from the hospital! She is 11lbs 11oz and is 22 3/8" long...BIG GIRL! All those newborn diapers and clothes are history.

Haiden's "Almost Smile"

The Steinbach Pack is definitely looking forward to spring and some warmer weather. It has been a cold winter and Haiden is itchin' to get outside and play.

Stay tuned for more updates....

The Birth Story and Update
How appropriate to update this blog on December 17, Haiden's original due date.
To everyone's surprise, Haiden decided to join this world 2 weeks and 4 days early!

Friday, November 28th
After a long day of power Christmas cookie baking (8 hours to be exact!), Justin and Sarah sat down to have a relaxing dinner and watch a movie. To Sarah's shock and slight embarrassment her water broke; not the stereotypical dramatic Hollywood gush but a small trickle, enough to make them wonder and pull out ALL of the Pregnancy & Birth books to start self diagnosing.

Still not convinced it was her water breaking, Sarah and Justin continued their evening as normal; with the exception of the periodic glances of hidden concern to each other. They decided to go to bed and wait it out...it was November after all...

Saturday, November 29
At 4:00am, Sarah became a little more concerned and decided it was better to be safe than sorry. IT WAS TIME. Sarah and Justin got their bags together, showered, picked up the house, and fed the girls. They arrived at St. Mary's Hospital at 6:00am.

Several hours, nurses, and doctors later, it was medically determined that Sarah's water did in deed break. They were there for the long haul!

At around 9:00am Justin started making the infamous calls to the immediate families. How convenient that the entire Mittelstadt family, Uncle Matt included, were all together at Val Helga in St. Cloud celebrating Thanksgiving weekend. The Steinbach's were only 15 minutes away in Hermantown. With a slight detour for the Mittelstadt's, everyone was on their way and in transit to SMDC.

Labor and Delivery
Contractions were not noticeable until about 9:00am.
At 11:30am, they became incredibly strong and an epidural was finally given. Relief!
Justin was fabulous company and kept Sarah focused and sane-just don't touch her. ;)
At 2:30pm, the Mittelstadt family had arrived to the hospital with the Steinbach's arriving shortly after. Just in time!
With only an hour and 30 minutes of pushing and great coaching by
Justin, Haiden Marie arrived at 4:01pm.
Beautiful and healthy, she scored a 9 out of 10 for her Apagar score.

HELLO WOLRD!!!

Homecoming

Sarah, Justin and Haiden were given the OK to go home on December 1st.
Haiden was dressed in her Monkey Adorable outfit...which was a tad bit big for her, but nevertheless, adorable!

The new family arrived home around noon and were welcomed with curiosity and excitement by Shyla and Jayd. They weren't too sure what to think of little Haiden and maybe still don't...!

2 Weeks and 4 Days Later
Everyone is doing well. Haiden is growing fast and is now 7lbs 1oz! She had her first real doctor's appointment on Friday, December 12th. Dr. Beery, her pediatrician, said she is perfect and healthy.
Haiden has a 2-3 hour sleep cycle and is doing pretty well at night. Her bassinet is in the room with Justin and Sarah. They tried having her sleep in her own room with a video monitor, however, she broke their hearts, and was brought back into their room!

Preparing for Haiden Marie

Haiden's Nursery
We started the transformation of the guest bedroom into Haiden's Nursery back in August. Annamarie and Mary came to Duluth for a weekend to help prepare and paint the room. Lilac and pale yellow were selected as the colors. White polka dots were eventually added to the yellow walls to create a fun and girly look.
Justin and Jack spent a weekend putting two very large holes in the side of the house as they replaced the old original windows in the bedroom. What a difference 2 new windows make!
The beautiful furniture came in October and the Tropical Jungle themed bedding completed the look; fun, bright, and punchy!
(Minnesota Vikings were not the intended look!)
Now we wait....
